2GB Sandisk Extreme IV CF

Santa came late for me last year and started delivering this year. My wife is going to kill me for buying all these stuff... Oh well, I'm going to enjoy them for now. Here is Sandisk Extreme IV CF card. It has a whopping 40MB/sec read and write! Pretty much the fastest out there. Decent price at $89. Sorry, rebate is over.

Question is ... is 40MB/sec really necessary? Anyone?

I bought the exact card to use on my 30D. I haven't tried the Ultra II or Extreme III so I can't compare against those...but I did initially use my old standard Sandisk CF card (256mb) from several years ago and there is a huge difference!

The difference in lag time between the Standard CF card versus the Extreme IV is very noticeable especially since I was shooting in RAW+JPG (~7-8mb/picture).

I have used Hitachi Micro Drive (4GB), Kingston Elite Pro (2GB , 4GB), Sandisk Ultra II (2GB), and many others. IMHO, the difference is there when downloading to PC or MAC using fast card reader but not much so when using in the camera (camera access speed is ~7MB/sec for 1DS MK2). ALso, in camera buffer makes it difficult to notice in real life.

Bob Atkins has a good review on this.
