great article. i had no idea this process was so complex.

it's emphasized several times that the photographers shoot simultaneously in RAW and JPG. i couldn't find the specific reason for doing so. is it because jpg allows them to view the pictures quickly?

I am not 100% sure of why, but I would guess that it is faster to sort through the thousands of shots they get per event as you have mentioned.

For the publication, it appears they are using the RAW to enhance before printing.
